PNFC Joins SUN Movement to Boost Nutrition Partnerships

Cagayan de Oro City, February 26, 2025 – The Philippine Nutri-Foods Corporation (PNFC) continues to champion nutrition advocacy in the Philippines as it participates in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Network in Northern Mindanao’s First Semester Meeting for CY 2025, organized by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region X.

The meeting, held at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, gathered SUN Network Members from the business sector, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to discuss sustainable solutions for improving nutrition and food security in Northern Mindanao.

PNFC’s involvement in the SUN Movement – Business Network underscores its commitment to supporting nutrition programs in the Philippines, particularly those aligned with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). By collaborating with national and local stakeholders, PNFC aims to contribute to malnutrition prevention, food fortification initiatives, and community-based nutrition programs that directly impact vulnerable populations.

Addressing Regional Nutrition Challenges and Future Initiatives

During the meeting, participants reviewed the regional nutrition situation in Northern Mindanao, drawing insights from the 2023 National Nutrition Survey (DOST-FNRI) and the 2021-2024 Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus regional consolidated data. Discussions highlighted key concerns related to underweight, stunting, wasting, and overweight prevalence among children aged 0-59 months, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions.

In addition, the meeting facilitated the mapping of ongoing nutrition initiatives led by various sectors within the Northern Mindanao SUN Network. Stakeholders also laid out the 2025 activity roadmap, which includes significant events such as the upcoming SUN Network Northern Mindanao Forum, the 51st Nutrition Month Celebration, National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. These collaborative efforts aim to strengthen regional nutrition programs and reinforce public-private partnerships for sustainable impact.

Looking Ahead: PNFC’s Commitment to a Healthier Philippines

By participating in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, PNFC continues to drive impactful initiatives that contribute to the country’s nutrition security, health improvement, and poverty alleviation. Through strong partnerships with NNC Region X and other stakeholders, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to build a well-nourished and food-secure Philippines.

As part of its long-term vision, PNFC is also preparing to establish its NutriStores across Visayas and Mindanao in the near future. These community-based nutrition hubs will serve as accessible centers for affordable, fortified food products, ensuring that underserved communities have better access to nutritious meal options. This initiative aligns with PNFC’s commitment to scaling up nutrition solutions nationwide, particularly in regions where malnutrition remains a critical concern.
