Tokyo, Japan, December 11, 2022  –  Philippine Nutri-Foods Corporation (PNFC) proudly represented the Philippines at the prestigious 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (ICN), organized by the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS). With the theme “The Power of Nutrition: For the Smiles of 10 Billion People”, the congress gathered leading global researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders to share the latest scientific advancements and practical applications in the field of nutrition.

As part of its commitment to advancing nutritional science and public health, PNFC presented three research posters focused on functional and supplementary food products designed for vulnerable populations in the Philippines.

Poster Presentations by Philippine Nutri-Foods Corporation

  1. Development of Protein Bar as Supplementary Food Product for Tuberculosis (TB) Patients:

This study introduced a protein-dense bar formulated with whey and soy proteins, inulin, and L-glutathione. Designed to support TB patients’ recovery, the bar addresses macronutrient and micronutrient deficiencies while being shelf-stable and convenient for scale distribution. The product meets daily nutritional guidelines recommended by the WHO for TB care.

  2. Assessment of Nutritional Status of Underweight and Severely Underweight Children Aged 3 to 5 Years Using Nutripacks with Vita Meena Micronutrient Powder (MNP):

Focused on the impact of NutriPacks + Vita Meena MNP in Supplementary Feeding Programs (SFP), this research demonstrated significant weight-for-age improvements in Regions IV-A and V. With over 40% of RENI nutrients provided per serving, the intervention notably enhanced child nutrition in home-based and daycare feeding settings.

  3. Assessment of Nutritional Status of Underweight Children Aged 3 to 5 Years Using Nutribun Paired with Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplement (LNS) in Region IV-A:

A reformulated Nutribun paired with LNS was tested among nearly 13,000 children. The study showed remarkable improvement, with 61.45% of children recording better nutritional status. The combination delivered 325 kcal and 10g protein per serving, proving ideal for addressing undernutrition in early childhood.

Advancing Philippine Nutrition Solutions on the Global Stage

PNFC’s participation in the 22nd IUNS-ICN highlights its continuous innovation in developing ready-to-eat, calorie-dense, and nutrient-rich food products. These efforts not only support national feeding programs but also contribute to the global dialogue on sustainable nutrition solutions for populations with limited access to balanced diets.

The Congress provided an invaluable platform for Philippine Nutri-Foods Corporation to engage with international experts, exchange insights, and explore collaborative opportunities to improve food systems and public health outcomes.
